Nyhavn District

Europe might do wine better than anywhere else in the world (controversial), but we also know how to do a decent glog – or glogg, as the consonant-greedy Danes like to call it. Wander around the bustling Christmas markets and the picturesque Nyhavn district by the waterside and enjoy a glass or two of the Nordic mulled wine while finding gifts for your relatives, friends and maybe even your pet.

Generator Hostel Copenhagen

Generator Copenhagen is a chic six-storey property around the corner from one of the city's prettiest parks. With modernist lighting and a decent bar, it's a great place to meet young, hip travellers like yourself. Not young and/or hip? Doesn't matter. The whole point of travel is that you don't have to be yourself. Well, that and visiting nice places, but you get our point. generatorhostels.com

The Little Mermaid

Remember Ariel? Course you do. Well, turns out the classic Disney movie of the early '90s wasn't actually the brainchild of Walt Disney (who'd have thought!). The original story was penned by Hans Christian Andersen and in typical HCA style, it didn't end anywhere near as nicely as the film. Check out the Little Mermaid statue, an homage to Copenhagen's favourite half-woman-half-fish daughter. It may be small, but the waterside walk is lovely.
