There are two words you need to know when visiting the Czech capital: pivo meaning 'beer' (easy to remember, even when you've had too many) and pivnice meaning 'Czech beer hall'. We pride ourselves on giving the very best travel advice…

Eat: Beer and BBQ boat

You could paddle down the river in a pedal boat, or walk along its banks – both would be fun. But better yet, why not try the BBQ Donut Party-Grill Boat? That’s right, Praguers like nothing more than relaxing, grilling, and drinking beer, and on these cool, doughnut-shaped boats, stuffing their little faces without having to lift a finger. Sit back, relax and enjoy Prague’s baroque splendour as you take a lazy trip downstream, while the captain steers the grill and mans the ship (or something).

Drink: Beer Geek

Drink beer until 2am at this slick local favourite, aptly named Beer Geek. Even when it's busy the bar guys will spend time recommending the best beer for your tastes, which is great if you're ordering, not so good if you're waiting. Calm your horses – while you're queuing, have a chat with your pals and check out the menu detailing the percentages and breweries of the different bevs. Soak it all up with some food – you can bring your own or order the ominous 'English pie'. beergeek.cz

Play:Arcade Hry

Spend an afternoon playing the likes of Space Invaders, Pac Man and Street Fighter 2, before returning to the city for… you guessed it… more beer

We've dragged our feet through enough museums to know the good from the bad. This one, set in the car park of the Červený Újezd Castle, is definitely good. In fact, it's brilliant – how could a room of 140 retro arcade games not be?
