The basics

Fans of sophisticated dance music gather in spectacular surroundings for one of the most intriguing festivals among Croatia’s mighty crop.

The festival

There’s no shortage of festivals to choose from in Europe’s unofficial home of the festival, but Dimensions has not one but two major trump cards – a spectacular location on Crotia’s Istria penninsula and a frighteningly tasteful EDM lineup.

Based in and around a 19th century fort near the town of Pula (with its own, immaculately preserved Roman amphitheatre, if you’re into that kind of thing) Dimensions has a setting unlike any other, without sacrificing the country’s legendary ability to put on a party.

Daytime is all about relaxing (or recovering) on the beach to a sun-drenched backdrop of chilled beats, before things really get started in the early evening and an eclectic lineup drawn from the outer reaches of electronica whips 3,000-strong crowds into a sweat-soaked frenzy. There are nine daily boat parties too, though if you miss them there’s always the beach, which keeps rocking until sunset.

Acts that performed in 2014 included Caribou, Darkside, Warpaint, Jon Hopkins and jazz funk icon Roy Ayers. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary – and don’t mind picking up a tan while you’re at it – Dimensions could be for you.

Our tip

Get there a day early and you’ll be able to catch a live show inside Pula’s Roman amphitheatre – surely one of the most unique and remarkable settings for live music anywhere on the Continent.
