The basics

Golden Gate Park, hundreds of bands and DJs and San-Fran chic. That’s all you need to know.

The festival

Is there a city cooler than San Francisco? Not many we’d say. So it’s only natural that Outside Lands takes place at the heart of 1960s hippie heaven, Golden Gate Park, a stone’s throw from the iconic area of Haight-Ashbury.

Flower power and free love might not be the name of the day quite so much, but you can ensure a love in with the gorgeous park, which dates back to the 1860s. Carrying on the 60s environmental zeal is Eco Lands, an educational area, while at least one stage will be solar powered and there’s a farmer’s market for fresh food (no more nasty burgers).

While there’s no camping within the park, you can rent a bike and cycle to it, and a cycle valet will even wash your bike for you. Oh and there’s some pretty awesome music too. Needless to say this is one cool cat of a festival.

Our tip

Head over to neighbouring area Richmond for cool indie shopping and the best bookshop on the West Coast, Green Apple.
