The basics

Satisfy your innner pyromaniac in the heart of the West Scotland lowlands

The festival

The Wickerman Festival, with the aim to bring established, emerging, and retro artists alike together, is one of Scotland's leading independent festivals. Inspired by the namesake 1973 cult classic British horror movie that was filmed in the surrounding areas, the festival takes place inside a natural amphitheatre on a local working farm in Dumfires and Galloways.

Wickerman Festival has a bit of something for everybody, with its eclectic mix of genres, including punk, rock, indie, alongside dance and electronica. 2014's lineup had the likes of Dizzee Rascal, The Feeling, British Sea Power, Utah Saints, and Martha Reeves & The Vandellas.

The culmination of the festivities occurs on Saturday night when the giant 30ft wickerman built by the craftsmen of the town is lit. As it burns away, the festival revellers party on into the wee hours of the night until 5am. But the fun doesn't stop there. There is also a cinema, fun fair, circus entertainment, grass sledging, mountain biking and array of arts and craft activities for all the family spread across the farm.

Think Glasto but 30 years ago and half the size.

Our tip

With the festival being so remote, be sure to use Wickerman's CarShare system - if you're in need of a lift, or just want to do your bit for the environment.
