Scarpa Vapour V climbing shoe: What is it?

A great pair of climbing shoes for the beginner looking to graduate from those sickly smelling, disinfectant-covered rental shoes at their local gym and bag something that's a little more grippy and better fitting. The Scarpa Vapour V is available either velcro-strapped for easy on/off, or laced for a more precise fit, which we'd recommend for a narrower-footed climber.

Scarpa Vapour V climbing shoe: Why do I need it?

Indoor climbing is an addiction. It all starts with a taster session where you're freaking out about climbing a straightforward ladder-like sequence of holds and ends with you hanging off door frames from your fingertips while you wait for the kettle to boil. Somewhere in the middle, probably after about five or six gym sessions, you're gonna get the bug. And when you've got the bug, you're probably going to want to invest in a decent pair of climbing shoes. These, for a beginner or intermediate climber, are they. Not only will you (eventually) save a packet by not renting shoes at around £3-4 a pop, but you'll really benefit from the difference in fit and grip between these and the looser, more worn-in gym shoes.

Scarpa Vapour V climbing shoe: Should I buy it?

If you're looking for a versatile first shoe that can provide the all-day comfort required for outdoor days as well as the technical requirements of indoor bouldering, definitely. With a moderate, but not overly aggressive downturn on the toe, as well as a reverse slingshot rubber rand that gives you a more toe purchase for less effort, you'll have no problem climbing tricky overhangs. Similarly, the solid XS Edge™ and grippy Vibram® soles make it easier to grapple with those tiny holds on more vertical slab climbs. If you're a first-time buyer, don't necessarily rush into buying your street shoe size. Although the fit on these shoes is pretty true, you’re looking for a fit that's glove-like and snug, without being cripplingly uncomfortable.
