The alternative yoga camp: House of Voga

5-12 May, Morocco

If there are days when you just can't decide between a serene yoga sesh or hitting the dancefloor in all your finery, good news: you can now do both at the same time. House of Voga is a funky workout that brings together the breath-synchronised moves of yoga with voguing – and yes, that's 80s-style drag ballroom dancing. You can try these fabulous classes around London, or hop over to Morocco in May, when founder Juliet Murrell is hosting a surf'n'yoga camp in the village Taghazout. You'll stay in a gobsmackingly beautiful mountain retreat and load up each morning with Berber-inspired breakfast banquets before getting your daily surfing and voga fix, finishing up with dinner parties on the terrace. Legwarmers and fake eyelashes optional – we're not sure they'll work on a surfboard.

The luxurious yoga camp: The Reset Button

24-30 May, Barcelona

Before attending The Reset Button's superlative yoga retreat in Barcelona, you need to send its experts a piece of your hair. Nope, they're not going to use it to clone you or steal your identity – they actually test it to show any allergies, intolerances and nutrient deficiencies, which means they can create you a perfectly tailored nutrition programme when you arrive. You then spend the week with a nutrition coach, mindfulness therapist, psychotherapist, masseuse and personal chef, who'll help you to address imbalances. It sounds luxurious, and that's because it is – at £2,250 a pop it doesn't come cheap, but what you'll learn about yourself will be 100% worth it.

The adventurous yoga camp: EcoYoga

Retreats available year-round, Scotland

Wild river bathing makes us think of tearing off our clothes and running into a river with wild abandon, preferably in somewhere hot and sunny – not, say, the Scottish Highlands. But don't let that put you off: the EcoYoga centre in Argyll has built two baths in the rock down by the river that have both hot and cold running water, so you can get nice and toasty while you summon up the courage to dive (read: bellyflop) into the river for a wild swim. Then, of course, there's the yoga – book into one of the centre's courses and you'll get a daily stretch sesh followed by brunch, and the rest of the day is yours, whether you want to roam the hills, read, or take yet another bath.

The yoga camp where you'll get a tan: Soul & Surf

Retreats available year-round, Kerala, India

So you went to Kerala and you ate appam (a thin pancake made with fermented rice flour and coconut milk) with stew; you scoffed tender, flavour-laden beef curry; you hoovered up fish moilee, a stew made with coconut milk; and you nailed many, many banana fritters. And now you have a problem, because you can't fit into your jeans. Cap your trip off with a stay at Soul & Surf, where you might just stand a chance of working it all off and have plenty of fun while you're at it. The yoga and surf camp set up in Varkala in 2010, and has been crafting some of the best fitness holidays ever since. The team know where the tourist-free beaches are, have perfected their sunset yoga sessions, and definitely know how to hold a barbecue in their lush gardens. What's more, Soul & Surf wants to do something good, so it runs a surf club for village kids and supports two charities, including 1% For The Planet.

The family-friendly yoga camp: Ila Wellness Workshop

Retreats available year-round, Gloucestershire

A yoga retreat with kids doesn't initially sound like much fun, but hear us out: you'll get to do your down dogs and find your zen undisturbed, safe in the knowledge that your wee ones are being kept entertained in their own stretch sesh. Then, of course, there are all the other benefits of a retreat with Oxfordshire-based organic therapy brand Ila – from making your own salt scrub to having access to treatments, the hot tub and pool. And there's an (admittedly slim) chance that your nippers might learn the art of inner peace, too, which sounds like a pretty big win to us.

The hipster yoga camp: Yoga Spirit Circle

9-12 August, Berlin

Berlin: famous for techno, sausages… and now yoga, which makes sense given the uber cool city's rep as a centre for creativity and, well, hipsters. And in true Berlin style, this retreat looks as cool as they come, with two daily yoga classes, brunch and visits to some of the best veggie restaurants in Europe's capital of vegan food. Then, of course, there's the fact that the retreat takes place at a townhouse in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg – home to club nights that have a tendency to become a whole weekender… But if that sounds like a bit too much, the Yoga Spirit Circle team runs loads of fun retreats in the south of Spain, too.
